Overview
Mechanism of Action
GHK-Cu exerts its biological effects through multiple interconnected pathways. It binds to cell-surface receptors and activates intracellular pathways that promote collagen I and III synthesis, glycosaminoglycan deposition, and angiogenesis. GHK-Cu modulates the activity of thousands of human genes, essentially resetting them to a younger, healthier state. It stimulates the production of messenger RNA for collagen, elastin, proteoglycans, and glycosaminoglycans in fibroblasts, while exerting antioxidant effects by reducing levels of nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) and improving superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. The copper ion plays a critical role in its biological activity, and GHK facilitates the uptake of copper by cells.
