Pinealon

Pinealon (also known as EDR peptide) is a synthetic tripeptide with the amino acid sequence Glu-Asp-Arg (EDR). It was developed by Russian scientist Vladimir Khavinson as part of a family of short peptide "bioregulators" and is documented in the Russian scientific literature as a geroprotector. Pinealon is a pineal gland-derived peptide bioregulator that has been extensively studied for its neuroprotective, cognitive-enhancing, and geroprotective properties. The small peptide nature of Pinealon gives it exceptional nuclear membrane permeability, enabling direct genomic interactions.

Pinealon exerts its neuroprotective effects through multiple interconnected mechanisms. The peptide prevents the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and suppresses the activation of ERK 1/2 signaling pathways. It enhances the functional activity of major cellular components of brain tissue while reducing spontaneous cell death. Pinealon increases cell viability by suppressing free radical levels and activating proliferative processes, maintaining cellular homeostasis through regulation of apoptosis and necrosis mechanisms. The peptide may also interact with methylated and unmethylated DNA sequences, affecting DNA repair and gene expression.
