Tesamorelin (Tesa)

Tesamorelin (also known as Tesa) is a synthetic research peptide, a stabilized analogue of human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Tesamorelin peptide consists of the full 44-amino acid GHRH sequence with a trans-3-hexenoic acid modification at the N-terminal tyrosine for enhanced stability. This TESA peptide is classified as a GHRH analog and somatotropin agonist, FDA-approved for reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy and widely studied for growth hormone dynamics and metabolism research.

Tesamorelin binds to the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor (GHRH-R) on somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary gland, mimicking the action of endogenous GHRH. This receptor binding stimulates the synthesis and pulsatile release of endogenous growth hormone (GH), which in turn elevates circulating levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). Through this mechanism, tesamorelin promotes metabolic effects including reduction of visceral adipose tissue (VAT), improvement of lipid profiles, and maintenance of glucose homeostasis.
