Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide (DSIP) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide first isolated in the 1970s from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits during electrically induced sleep. It is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain consisting of nine amino acids with the sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu. Originally investigated for its sleep-promoting properties, DSIP has since been recognized as a neuromodulator with pleiotropic physiological effects.
